Server Installation and Maintenance
Want to install a webserver? Mail server? Database server? DNS server? Proxy server? SSH/FTP server? Or fix some problems with these servers?
We shall help you.
We specialise in installing all these servers in any of the Linux platforms: Debian, Ubuntu, Redhat, CentOS, Fedora, virtually any. At present, we do not offer Microsoft Windows based server installations.
The server specifications we usually use are the following:
1. Web server - Apache, which is the most popular reliable, cost effective open source webserver.
The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards.
Apache httpd has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April 1996, and celebrated its 15th birthday as a project this February.
The Apache HTTP Server ("httpd") is a project of The Apache Software Foundation.
2. Mail Server - The most popular Postfix, or the classical Sendmail or the new generation Exim .
3. Database Server - There is no answer to MySQL in open source database server section, so we prefer this one for any small/medium scale websites/ database applications.
4. Proxy Server - Squid is never second to any other proxy software.
Squid is a caching proxy for the Web supporting HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and more. It reduces bandwidth and improves response times by caching and reusing frequently-requested web pages. Squid has extensive access controls and makes a great server accelerator. It runs on most available operating systems, including Windows and is licensed under the GNU GPL. It is used by hundreds of Internet Providers world-wide to provide their users with the best possible web access. Squid optimises the data flow between client and server to improve performance and caches frequently-used content to save bandwidth. Squid can also route content requests to servers in a wide variety of ways to build cache server hierarchies which optimise network throughput. 5. SSH - OpenSSH server which can control access based on ip's, MAC addresses, users etc.
OpenSSH is a FREE version of the SSH connectivity tools that technical users of the Internet rely on. Users of telnet, rlogin, and ftp may not realize that their password is transmitted across the Internet unencrypted, but it is. OpenSSH encrypts all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other attacks. Additionally, OpenSSH provides secure tunneling capabilities and several authentication methods, and supports all SSH protocol versions. 6. FTP - Vsftpd is more than enough for any user based and/or anonymous ftp services.
